Ground Transportation: Richmond and Newport News Airports

UPDATE Tuesday 5/29 evening: All of the information below, posted previously, is now confirmed. Use Groome Transportation from Richmond or Tidewater Coach from Newport News to get subsidized rates as explained below.

The only new updates are:
  • For those flying into or out of Norfolk International Airport (despite our advice to the contrary!), Tidewater Coach Shuttle Service will offer a subsidized rate of $45 each way.
  • If you are arriving by some other means but departing from one of these airports, please call Groome (for Richmond) or Tidewater Coach (for Newport News or Norfolk) as early as possible to reserve your trip to the airport at the end of the conference.

Richmond International Airport

We have contracted with Groome Transportation for conference participants arriving at and/or departing from the Richmond airport to offer (partially) subsidized fares for participants of only $15 each way to and from the College (and Williamsburg Hospitality House).

Groome has a booth inside the terminal, near the bottom of the escalators as you enter the baggage-claim area. Purchase your ticket at the booth, making sure to mention the conference to get the discounted/subsidized fare. If you will be returning to the Richmond airport at the end of the conference, reserve your return trip at the same time and pay the same reduced fare for the return trip as well.

Newport News/Williamsburg Airport

We expect to be running FREE shuttle buses, provided by Williamsburg Area Transit, on an hourly basis from the Newport News airport to the College (and Williamsburg Hospitality House) during peak arrival hours on Wednesday, and then from the College to the airport during peak departure hours on Sunday. Based on the arrival and departure times provided by participants to date, we expect shuttles to leave the Newport News airport hourly from 4:45 pm. to 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, and to leave the College hourly for the airport on Sunday between 12:45 pm and 4:45 pm. (The trip takes a little less than a half-hour.) These shuttle hours might be expanded somewhat depending on demand; again, please provide your arrival and departure information (link above) so we can accommodate you.

Participants arriving and/or departing outside these times are encouraged to make their own reservations through Tidewater Coach Shuttle Service. Mention the conference to receive a subsidized rate of $15.00 each way.
