One of the Best Jobs on Campus

"Hi, my name is Liz, and I'm a junior at the College of William and Mary calling tonight on behalf of the Fund for William and Mary..."

If you are a member of the W&M community, you may have received a call like this before. Or your parents have. Or even your professors have. That's because the Phonathon here at the college is one of the most vital parts of the college's fundraising efforts.  Last fiscal year, we raised $848,000 on the phones.

At the same time, Phonathon is also one of the best jobs on campus, in my completely biased opinion. Awesome people. Free candy. Flexible hours. Talking to alums-ranging from the most recent class of grads to the occasional person who graduated in the 1930's. Funny stories that result from some of these conversations. Knowing every day that you've made a difference in your education. These are all things that make Phonathon the best job I've ever had.  Honestly, words cannot suffice to say how much I love this job.

Okay, I know that was completely and 100% cheesy, and probably sounds more like it belongs on a Mastercard commercial, but, I mean, Phonathon is definitely all that and more. And my hope is that through this blog, you can begin to understand the awesome-ness that I call a job, and perhaps why Phonathon is such an integral part of the Fund and of the College. And maybe have a good laugh, too.
