About the Senior Class Gift
Answers to Common Questions
What is The Senior Class Gift?
- There are many time-honored student traditions at William & Mary. This year, the Class of 2010 has one more tradition to check off your list: Supporting your alma mater by making a gift to the Senior Class Gift.
- Senior Class Gift is your chance to give back to the College. Every year alumni and friends make annual gifts to support the College, its students and those opportunities that define the William and Mary experience. Participation in the Senior Class Gift is your chance to begin our own tradition of giving back...and your opportunity to leave a legacy.
- The purpose and mission of the Senior Class Gift is to engage students in philanthropy for the College and, through the process, encourage students to participate in giving back as alumni.
- As such, the Senior Class Gift asks students to consider what has been meaningful about their College experience and to make an impact for future students by giving back.
You can make a difference by directing your support to any of the following areas:
- The Fund for William and Mary
- Your Department, Program or School
- Scholarships/ Financial Aid
- Student Affairs
- Student Activities/ Organizations
- Swem Library
- Athletics
- Sustainability "Green" Expendable Fund
Why Participate?
- Remember - gifts of all levels ($10 minimum) add up to make a difference for William & Mary and count toward our participation goal. All donors will be listed in the honor roll of donors published in the Flat Hat and on the College's website.
- Because you can make a difference! Your support - no matter the amount - will make an impact for William and Mary and the students who follow in your footsteps. Just think - for the cost of a couple of pizzas, you can make an investment that supports what William and Mary means to you.
- To be a pacesetter for fellow classmates and alumni. Your example will inspire others to give. Together, annual gifts add up to significant sums and show our pride in our alma mater.
- Private support is crucial to the William and Mary experience. Combined tuition/ fees and state support provide just over half of the College's operating budget. Private gifts are an important factor in the College's financial picture.
- Set a new record for cash gift participation. In the past, seniors pledged support with payments due in the future. Our class will make an immediate impact today by setting the record for cash gifts received.
