Supporting a library for the 21st century.
Located at the very heart of the William and Mary campus, the Earl Gregg Swem Library is home to more than 3 million manuscripts, 1.1 million cataloged volumes and more than 20,000 electronic databases and online journals. The Library’s mission is to provide the College community with the best resources — an accomplishment made possible by the generosity of alumni and friends.
Your gift to Swem Library helps support these priorities:
General Library Support
General library donations provide Swem Library with flexibility to respond quickly to new opportunities and unanticipated challenges. Swem relies on funds for general collection support and endowments that provide sustaining funds for journals, books and digital resources. In addition, endowed funds protect and ensure the survival of our collections, specifically our rare books.
As the second largest provider of technology on campus, Swem’s ability to maintain technology and keep pace with the needs of our users depends on private support. The Information Commons, an expanse of computer workstations, reference and circulation desks staffed by knowledgeable librarians and assistants, is central to Swem’s technology access for students and faculty.
Botetourt Theatre Renovation
With classes from across the disciplines relying increasingly on the analysis and presentation of fiction and non-fiction films, a renovation of the Botetourt Theatre area will provide a media-rich, micro-cinema space capable of seating 65-75 people — a size not too large and not too small.
