Fund for William and Mary’s mission is to raise unrestricted
private support to meet the most pressing needs of the College
including support for academic programs, student scholarships,
faculty research, and student services. At a time when only
20% of the College’s budget comes from state funding,
gifts to the Fund from alumni, parents, friends, corporations
and foundations play a critical role in William and Mary’s
budget. For fiscal year 2008, the Fund's goal is to raise $5 million
in unrestricted dollars for the College.
The Fund accomplishes its mission through
a combination of staff and volunteer programs. Fundraising
initiatives include student phonathons, direct mail appeals,
and personal solicitations by staff and volunteers. A variety
of events are also sponsored by the Fund to help cultivate
and steward donors. These events include a Homecoming Brunch
and regional receptions for members of the Fourth Century
Club, a welcome event for incoming freshmen on Freshmen
Move-In Day, and a donor appreciation tent during Homecoming
Weekend.
