REU Application

APPLICATION

The 10-week program starts on 29 May 2007 and ends 4 August 2007. Candidates will be matched to project areas and mentors in the application process. Undergraduate thru first-semester seniors are eligible to apply. Please note that applicants must be enrolled in a degree program leading to a bachelor's degree. Participants receive a $3700 stipend for the program, $500 for food allowance, $500 for equipment as needed plus free housing in a college dormitory for the summer. Travel assistance is available for travel to and from the program.

Application for the REU Watershed Research Program must be completed and submitted on-line.

In addition to completing the application form be sure to do the following:

•  obtain two letters of recommendation in sealed, signed envelopes; these letters should be from faculty at your college or university and should address your academic and research capabilities/potential.

•  obtain one official copy of your transcript (may be an original released to     student).

   mail the letters of recommendation and transcript together in a single envelope by 1 March 2007 to:

IMPORTANT DATES

Applications:

1 March 2007: application package must be postmarked by this date

1 April 2007: target date for notification of acceptances. Approximately 10 to 15% of applicants may expect an interview by telephone by the target date; a phone interview does not imply acceptance in the summer program. If you do not hear from us by April 11 and you must decide on another offer, please contact us via e-mail. Students not offered a position will be notified by e-mail during mid-May.

Summer Research:

May 26-27 (Saturday/Sunday):  dormitory opens on the W&M campus

May 28 (Monday): Cookout for all students and faculty at 4 PM

May 29 (Tuesday): official program begins at 9 AM in Conference Room,                               Keck Lab

August 1 (Wednesday): final presentations of intern research

August 2 (Thursday): program evaluation and final meeting

August 4 (Saturday): depart for home

Students on quarter schedules may be accommodated if their quarters end too late to begin on 29 May.
