Dear Friends of the Environment,
On Monday, January 21, join us for a clean energy lobby day of massive proportions.
Spend Martin Luther King day in Richmond advocating for the "Clean Energy Future Act." While our fight against coal continues, we're also fighting to bring clean energy to the commonwealth.
The 'Clean Energy Future Act' will usher in a clean energy revolution in Virginia, mandating that we get 20% of our energy from clean sources like wind and solar, and that we reduce our electricity usage by 10%. Senator Chap Petersen has already introduced the bill, SB 446, now we need a surge of grassroots support to make this groundbreaking piece of legislation a reality.
WHEN: January 21st, Martin Luther King Day. Registration starts at 8:30am (alternative registration at 11:45 if you only have afternoon lobby visits)
WHERE: Centenary United Methodist Church, 411 East Franklin Street, Richmond, VA 23219
REGISTER: online at www.lobbycleanenergy.org
WHAT DO YOU DO NEXT? After your register, you will receive an email with details on how to set up your lobby visits and maximize your impact during session.
COST: $15 per person and $5 for students (costs cover lunch, speakers and materials). Scholarships are available.

SCC Hearing Huge Success!
Huge thanks to those of you who attended the public hearing on Dominion's proposed coal plant. Hundreds of people from all over Virginia descended on Richmond to oppose the plant. An astonishing 300 dissenters showed up at the hearing (so many, in fact, that we spilled over into an adjoining courtroom), 177 of whom signed up to testify. Hope to see you on the 21st!

This program provides students at U.S. colleges and universities with an opportunity to complete a three-month paid internship focusing on renewable energy,
improve German language skills, and experience German culture firsthand from late-May through August 2008. Internships are available in a variety of
professional fields, including, but not limited to business, marketing/PR, production/manufacturing, IT, engineering, chemistry, physics, material sciences,
environmental economics and policy. The program will begin in late May with a week-long introductory seminar on the topic of renewable energy in Germany
and the EU at the University of Kassel in Germany.
Renewable energy sources like wind power, solar power, and biofuels have long been championed by environmentalists. Recently, however, green power
has also become big business. Demand for clean energy technologies like wind and solar power has exploded, and the international renewable energy
market is projected to grow to $167 billion by 2015. While U.S. renewable energy markets are starting to accelerate German has aggressively supported
renewable energy since 1990 and is home to the world's largest renewable energy markets. Germany leads the world in wind and solar energy installations
and is also the world's largest producer of biodiesel. Given its considerable headstart with renewable energy, Germany is an ideal training ground for U.S.
students interested in pursuing clean energy careers.
