The Birthplace of a Nation
PROGRAM #4759
2008 sessions are now full. Register early next year to ensure your place!
Adventure awaits in colonial Virginia! Travel to Jamestown and discover the relationships between Indians, Africans and Europeans. Next, journey to Williamsburg and a time when Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry sparked the American Revolution. Debate a vote for independence, sample colonial cooking and clothing, and enjoy a real tavern meal. Talk to prosperous colonists, like the wig maker, silversmith, and tavern keeper. Journey onward to Yorktown, and celebrate the 225th anniversary of our independence. Together, experience what life was like in the capital of Virginia. Lectures, demonstrations, and participatory activities alternate with extensive field trips that include presentations and sites not usually available. Tickets included.
This program is for active hostelers and their grandchildren, ages 10-12. Maximum one grandchild per grandparent. Grandparents and grandchildren room together in hotel rooms with two double beds. Independent arrangements can be made by the hosteler for roll-aways at an additional cost of $10 per day. The hosteler pays this directly to the hotel. Grandparents are expected to participate and supervise their grandchild all week.

Our Intergenerational program is designed to offer an opportunity for grandparents and grandchildren to bond. Therefore, adults and children will be together for most activities, and program content is planned with this multi-generational audience in mind.
