Background: The Miss Rumphius Award was named after the book Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. This book describes a character who makes the world a beautiful place by scattering lupine seeds whereever she goes and flowers grow. In a sense, these winners have also made the world a beautiful place by learning about how to use technology, using technology in the classroom with their students, and then publishing their students' excellent work on the Internet.
