A WebQuest: Teachers Helping Teachers Integrate Technology Into The Classroom

INTRODUCTION

  • Do you want to use technology in your classroom as part of your literacy program but don't know how to get started?
  • Are you apprehensive or ambivalent about using the Internet yourself or with your students?
  • Do you wish there were other educators who could serve as role models for using technology in the classroom?
  • Are you a risk taker or like to think “outside of the box”?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you have come to.

Technology has become a big part of our lives in the world today. Most people use technology on a day to day basis in their jobs or professions. As technologies keep advancing and changing, teachers must explore the benefits of using computers in their classrooms especially as part of their literacy programs. If we ignore the use of computers and the Internet in the classroom, students will be at a great disadvantage as they grow and strive to be successful adults. There are several significant resources that can be utilized by educators who want to learn how to use and incorporate technology into their classrooms. Many of these resources are unknown by the majority of educators in the world. The goal of this webquest is to highlight these resources by answering several questions:

  • What are the resources on the Internet that can help teachers learn about integrating technology?
  • Who can teachers talk to for advice about using technology in the classroom?
  • How can teachers communicate with other teachers around the U.S. or the world about this topic?
  • What are some first steps that teachers can take to incorporate technology into their literacy instruction?
