Search technologies continue to evolve in new directions in terms of the problems they try to solve, the technologies used, the content searched and the presentation of results. The most popular brand name in search technologies continues to be Google, with Yahoo and others following close behind. However, several other technologies compete in various niches and segments of the search market space, each offering new and exciting additions to the basic concept of searching for information.
In this talk, I will give a brief overview of the search technology space, present various new directions in search - some existing, some expected - and outline the future of search technologies. Collectively, I call these new directions "Beyond Google" to draw a distinction between today's technologies, as embodied by the usual searches on a search engine web site such as Google's, and the tomorrow's technologies as I present in this talk.
