Making fuel, building community
A biofuel plant (i.e. an old water heater, a plastic holding tank and a few pumps) has been set up by undergraduates at the College in a corner of the Keck Lab. A Sharpe Community Scholars project, the plant turns waste cooking oil into usable biodiesel with an estimated octane content similar to that of regular diesel. In the process, the students are building partnerships throughout the Williamsburg community.
