Things You Need to know Generally speaking, it's always better to major in the subject that interests you most and that you will enjoy studying for years. You rarely gain enough depth of knowledge with an undergraduate program to limit your career choices. If you explore our W&M Outcomes information above, you will find English majors that became physicians, Business majors who became teachers, Philosophy majors who became technology managers. The extra-curriclars, summer jobs and internships you participate typically have a greater influence on what your first postgraduate job will be than your major. Explore & investigate resourcesAlumni Mentors Database: A network of over 3000 William & Mary alumni who are willing to talk to students about their majors and careers. Shadowing Opportunities: Explore majors and careers through short-term externships during winter and spring breaks. Shadow alumni at their place of work and see what their field is really all about. The Career Center opens it's Shadowing database in late November or early December. Subscribe to our listserv to receive notification or keep an eye on our web site. Faculty: Talk with faculty who teach classes within the concentration you are considering to find out more about what is involved in that course of study.
