The Career Development Process Back to the main parent page
Stage 2: Career Exploration and Developing Marketable Skills Get involved in leadership positions on campus. Decide on a concentration. Continue building relationships with faculty and mentors. Seek out job shadowing opportunties, participate the Local Internship Program during the semester. Do informational interviews, and use the Alumni Mentoring program to research career options. Take elective courses to develop marketable skills. Plan for a summer internship. Refine your résumé. Stage 3: Build Experience and Network Gain additional leadership experience. Explore internship possibilities both during the academic year and the summer. Continue developing marketable skills in both coursework and activities. Get supervisory experience in a part-time job. If you are interested in public service careers or international careers, volunteer in order to gain familiarity with those populations. Use networking in order to further narrow career options and explore internship opportunties. Start investigating your options, if you are considering graduate school. Join one or two professional associations in your chosen career field--before you graduate. Build your résumé. |
