In the fall of 1998, the College of William & Mary was awarded a $1.6 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute for the advancement of undergraduate education in biological sciences and other scientific disciplines as they relate to biology.á The Undergraduate Science Education and Research Program provides valuable expansion and enhancement of undergraduate research opportunities.á

The Center for Gifted Education is a learning community that values and fosters the talent development process of individuals over the lifespan. It responds to their intellectual and social emotional needs in order to foster the development of the whole person. The Center nurtures exceptional ability in academic, moral, and ethical, and aesthetic domains through interdisciplinary inquiry and excellence of instruction.

The School of Education's traditional focus on undergraduate education for teachers has expanded to include numerous graduate degree programs. Today, the School prepares teachers for elementary, middle and secondary education; specialists in counseling, gifted education, school psychology, special education; and administrators for K-12 and higher education settings.
