Housing, Meal Plans, and Costs

Costs

Housing (accommodation) costs vary depending on location and occupancy. Unlike at St Andrews, residence halls do not provide meals; instead, you will purchase a separate meal plan

Housing

Joint Degree Programme students are guaranteed on-campus housing (accommodation) in a standard double room for all four years, provided all application deadlines are met and you remain in good academic standing. Once you've reviewed your possibilities for housing, you should submit a housing application via the Housing Portal no later than March 1. You may preference certain residence halls or roommates within the housing application; we cannot guarantee that you'll get all that you request due to space and availability.

As you consider your options and determine your preferences, please keep in mind the following:

  • Single rooms, apartments, and preferred spaces in Residence Halls are available only if you have a documented medical need through Student Accessibility Services (SAS). If you have a condition that you think would qualify you for one of these spaces, please contact residence life and SAS as soon as possible.
  • If you and another student would like to room together, each of you must submit a housing application and create a roommate group.
  • If you are not required to live on campus per the two-year live-on requirement you have the option of living off-campus if you prefer. Please be aware that Williamsburg offers limited public transportation, so you might need a car or bike if you choose to live away from campus. Also, be aware that signing a housing contract—either with W&M or with a local landlord—is binding. Do not sign a contract for a room on campus if you are considering living elsewhere. Please contact residence life if you have questions; we will assume you intend to live on campus unless you inform us otherwise.

Pay attention to your W&M email as important housing selection information will be sent to it beginning early December through the room selection timeline. To review the room selection timeline please review our website and know what to expect if you are a new or returning student. If you have questions, please contact  Residence Life.
