Tuition and Financial Aid

How much does it cost?

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees will be $48,400 for academic year 2024-2025. Additional costs include housing and food, travel, visa, NHS health surcharge (typically around £470 per person, per year of study for international students), special instructional fees (e.g., for music instruction), books, fines, personal expenses, etc. For more information about housing (accommodation) costs, see W&M Room Rates or St Andrews Residence Fees.

You will pay programme tuition/fees to your home institution for all four years. W&M home students will receive a bill every semester. You will pay housing/accommodation fees (including deposits) and special fees (e.g., for music lessons or exam re-sits) to the institution at which you are studying that year. Because of the nature of the joint degree, there is no difference in tuition based on place of study (there is no "in-state tuition" in the JDP, even when you are studying at W&M). Except in the case of financial aid, all students pay the same amount, regardless of their home university.

Whether you are a home or a host student, you can set up your Banner account so that any W&M billing notices are sent directly to your parent, guardian, or other responsible party.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available to Joint Degree students admitted through William & Mary.

In most cases, Virginia residents will have their full financial need met. Qualifying out-of-state students may receive up to 25% of their full cost of attendance in grant aid. If you are accepted to both the joint degree and standard programs, you will receive two separate award letters.

Students applying through William & Mary and seeking financial aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application.

Please contact [[jdobrota, Joe Dobrota]] if you have any questions about your St. Andrews aid award.

G.I. Bill ®

Students planning to use veterans education benefits (GI Bill®) should be aware that the Department of Veterans Services has determined the Joint Degree Program between William & Mary and the University of St Andrews to be ineligible because it does not allow for transfer credit.
