Undergraduate Program
Beckman Scholars Program
In 1997 the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation established the Beckman Scholars Program to support outstanding undergraduate research students in chemistry, biochemistry, and the biological and medical sciences. The program provides funds to colleges and universities to enhance the academic experiences of its very best students through two summers and one academic year of research. In recognition of our extraordinary commitment to undergraduate research and mentorship, the College of William and Mary was one of only twenty four-year institutions that were recipients of this award at the time of its inception.
Beckman Scholars receive the following benefits:
- Scholarship support for two summers of undergraduate research ($6,000 per summer), with free College housing
- A one year academic research scholarship of $4,000
- Up to $3,300 over the life of the award to cover travel expenses and research supplies related to research activities
- Participation in the Beckman Scholars Annual Symposium (with travel expenses paid by the Beckman Foundation)
- All Beckman Scholars work under the close supervision of a faculty mentor from Applied Science, Biology or Chemistry. For a list of faculty designated as potential mentors for Beckman Scholars, click here.
