Prospective Students Without Dance Experience

Many students study dance for the first time at William and Mary. We offer courses in technique, composition, history, and performance which may lead to a Dance minor or Interdisciplinary Studies major. If you are interested in beginning dance classes, we recommend you enroll in Modern I or a lecture course such as Danc 230 (History of American Vernacular Dance).
All technique courses at the 200 level or above require faculty permission to enroll, and new students must attend a Dance Placement Evalution to obtain that permission.

The following Dance courses do not require instructor permission to enroll:
Lecture courses:
Danc 150 - Freshman Seminar
Danc 220 - History of Modern Dance (satisfies GER 5)
Danc 230 - History of American Vernacular Dance (satisfies GER 5)
Studio courses:
Danc 111 -- Modern I (satisfies GER 6)
