There will be overnight travel to Douthat State Park for an interpretive techniques workshop (four days).

This internship is in a Virginia State Park setting.  You will be oudoors alot of the time.  You work with a variety of age groups - both kids and adults. You will be leading many different types of programs from hikes to paddling, both day and evening, largely on weekends. During the school year there will be environmental education trips for school groups grades K-8. Interns will also assist with a handful of one-week Kids Kamps (ages 6-12).  Several off-site promotion of the park activities are done at nearby state and county parks.  You also help maintain the park's seven aquariums that house a variety of fish and reptiles, as well as light cleaning of the park's visitor center displays.  All training is included before you actually lead a program on your own.
