Summary: Interns assist the education staff in the creation, revision, and instruction of school programs, outreach programs, visitor programs, and other education programs. You will work with an enthusiastic team of educators and a variety of audiences (K-12th and up), and will learn different teaching methods in different settings. See the detailed description for more information.

Special Requirements: Interns must receive college credit in order to participate in the program, and must be enrolled in an accredited college, pursuing a degree in education, science, or a related field. They must be interested in informal education, public speaking, and customer service, and must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term. (Note to W&M Noyce and TCT applicants: If you are interested in this internship, speak with Kevin Goff (kdgoff@email.wm.edu) to work out a waiver on the college credit requirement stated above.)

Additional Details

Education interns assist the Visitor Experience and Education staff in the creation, revision, and instruction of school programs, outreach programs, visitor programs, and other education programs. The selected candidate will work with an enthusiastic team of educators and a variety of audiences (K-12th and up), and will learn different teaching methods in different settings. 

 

Essential Functions:

Create, revise, and instruct formal onsite and outreach programs, both classroom and auditorium style.

Engage the Aquarium’s visitors at exhibits and interpretational carts, and deliver presentations. 

Work with the Aquarium’s high school work-based learning program, Aquarium on Wheels. 

Participate in Immersion Tour programming, including sleepovers and other tours. 

Assist with administrative work as needed. 

Develop an educational project for use in the department. 

Complete special projects and duties as assigned.
