Background
Ravi M. Gupta is Associate Professor of Religious Studies at The College of William and Mary. Prior to this, he taught at Centre College of Kentucky and the University of Florida. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Oxford and was recently a Shivdasani Research Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies. Ravi teaches a variety courses in Hinduism, and he is the recipient of several teaching awards, including the Alumni Fellowship Award at William and Mary.
Ravi is the author of The Chaitanya Vaishnava Vedanta of Jiva Gosvami (Routledge, 2007) as well as several articles in academic journals. He is currently working on an abridged translation of the Bhagavata Purana, one of India’s most influential Sanskrit texts, to be published by Columbia University Press. He is also editing a book on Caitanya Vaisnava Philosophy for the Ashgate World Philosophies Series.
Ravi currently serves as Vice President of the Society for Hindu-Christian Studies. He lectures widely in Europe, India, and the United States, and participates frequently in inter-religious dialogue. In 2008, Ravi was invited to ceremonially greet Pope Benedict XVI on behalf of Hindus in America during his first visit to the United States.
