Full Description

Free Williams presented a paper entitled "The Definition of Religion in American Courts: Religious Minorities and Conformist Pressures" at the International Consortium of Law and Religion Scholars in August.  This November he will be delivering a paper entitled "Judges, Scholars, and New Religious Movements: Negotiating the Definition of Religion" for the New Religious Movements panel at the American Academy of Religion annual meeting in Baltimore.

Alexander Angelov will be delivering a paper entitled "God’s Representative on Earth: 'Caesaropapism' in Byzantine and Modern Orthodoxy" for the Eastern Orthodox Studies Group at the American Academy of Religion annual meeting in Baltimore this November.  His article "In Search of God's Only Emperor: 'Basileus' in Byzantine and Modern Historiography" has been accepted for The Journal of Medieval History and will appear in 2014.

Annie Blazer will be delivering a paper on “Masculinities and Religious Affects” for a dual session of the Men, Masculinities, and Religion and Religion, Affect, and Emotion groups at the American Academy of Religion annual meeting in Baltimore this November.

On September 17 and 18 John Morreall gave three ninety-minute presentations at Arizona State University: "Is Nothing Sacred? Humor in Religion," "What's So Funny: The Nature and Value of Humor," and "The Class Clown's Guide to Humor in Teaching."

At the Society of Biblical Literature annual conference in Baltimore this November Michael Daise will be delivering two papers: “Jewish Identity under Rome” for the Construction of Christian Identities group and “Quotations with ‘Remembrance’ Formulae in the Fourth Gospel” for the Johannine Literature section.
