As sad as it will be to bid adieu to Morton Hall, if all goes well the Jefferson Program will move to Tyler Hall in January 2016.
Several years ago when the College was thinking about what to do with Tyler Hall once the Business School moved to its new location in Miller Hall, Public Policy joined with Economics, Government and International Relations to propose that the four programs move together into the space. In September 2009 the College commissioned a feasibility study from Mitchell/Matthews Architects and this spring the State authorized the funds for the project.
The renovation will include a complete removal of virtually all of the existing interior walls and ceilings and will replace them with four floors of state-of-the art classrooms, seminar rooms, informal meeting spaces and faculty offices. The Jefferson Program will share the fourth floor with the Schroeder Center, and the plans include an MPP student lounge as well as a separate quiet study area.
Government and Economics faculty will all have offices in the building ensuring that most of our faculty affiliates will continue to be co-located with the program.
The current schedule calls for construction to begin in Summer 2014 and anticipates that we will move into the building at the beginning of the Spring 2016 semester.
