National Security and Defense
The following organizations recently hosted W&M interns:
The Central Intelligence Agency was created in 1947 with the signing of the National Security Act by President Truman. The National Security Act charged the Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) with coordinating the nation's intelligence activities and correlating, evaluating and disseminating intelligence which affects national security.
Department of Homeland Security
The new department's first priority is to protect the nation against
further terrorist attacks. Component agencies will analyze threats and
intelligence, guard our borders and airports, protect our critical
infrastructure, and coordinate the response of our nation for future
emergencies.
Department of Justice (Student Internship Narrative)
To enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States
according to the law; to ensure public safety against threats foreign
and domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and
controlling crime; to seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful
behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice
for all Americans.
Lockheed Martin
Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin is a global security
company that employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally
engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration
and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
National Security Agency
The National Security Agency is the Nation's cryptologic organization.
It coordinates, directs, and performs highly specialized activities to
protect U.S. information systems and produce foreign intelligence
information. A high technology organization, NSA is on the frontiers of
communications and data processing. It is also one of the most
important centers of foreign language analysis and research within the
Government.
