Practiced law in Washington, D.C. and was a visiting professor at Ohio State University.

Co-author of Virginia Tidal and Coastal Law and author of articles in the Southern California, Illinois, Brigham Young University and William and Mary law reviews, among others.

Vice Dean from 2000 until her appointment in February 2008 as  interim Dean. Member (ex officio) of the Board of Governors of the Real Property Section of the Virginia State Bar. Faculty advisor to the William and Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review and past president of the College's Faculty Assembly. Co-chairperson, with Professor Dennis Taylor of the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences, of the College of William and Mary's Committee on Sustainability.
