Class of '72
Mr. Hartwick earned a B.A. degree from the College of William and Mary and graduate degrees from Stanford University, Washington State University and the National War College.
As a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service, his primary areas of specialization were economics and Asian affairs. Among other posts and assignments, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to Laos, as Senior Coordinator for the 2005 Tsunami Reconstruction Task Force, and International Affairs Advisor to the Commandant of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He subsequently became Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for South Asia in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).
