Research Facilities
Psychology research encompasses a wide variety of areas and methodologies, with a similar variety in the kinds of facilities that are appropriate. Our EEG Lab, for example, uses two new rooms in the ISC that are tightly insulated to prevent interference from outside electrical noise. Social psychology research, on the other hand, calls for a large room where people can interact, or a suite where two people can interact and then separate to fill out questionnaires. Many areas of psychology involve large amounts of data and intensive computational support.
All facilities supporting research in the Psychology Department are located on campus in the Integrated Science Center, Millington Hall, and Bell Hall.
Our newest research laboratories were set up in 2008 in the recently constructed Integrated Science Center. When the second phase of this building is completed in 2009, it will replace the laboratories currently housed in Millington hall and provide many new faculty laboratories. The Psychology Department’s administrative and faculty offices will also move.
Bell Hall, located across Barker Field at the corner of Cary Street and Whythe Lane, houses three floors of Psychology laboratories, including the Child Research Center, the Eating Behavior and Child Development Center, and the Cognitive Neuroscience Lab.
