REU - Research Experience for Undergraduates
William & Mary Department of Physics 2013 REU Program
Update: Although review of applications starts on February 1, the deadline for REU applications has been extended by one week to February 8, 2013!
We invite undergraduates to apply for research opportunities for summer REU programs. Our 2013 REU dates are May 27- August 3rd. Preference will be given to physics students with superior records who are now completing the freshman, sophomore or junior year. For the ten weeks of participation, a student will receive a $5000 stipend, plus free dormitory room and health center services. Joint tours, talks, and activities are planned with the Hampton University Physics Department.
We recommend that your application materials be completed by February 1, 2013. Please fill out the Application Form directly on line and submit. Please email your unofficial transcripts and two letters of recommendations to [[evwilk]]. Please address the letters of recommendation to Professor Deconinck. The letters should comment on your interest in and potential for research. They might discuss your background in physics and the extent to which a summer research experience would further your education, possible graduate study, and future career. We prefer the letters emailed to [[evwilk]].
This program is funded in part by the NSF and was last offered in the summer of 2012. Stipends from NSF funds are restricted to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. We welcome applications from international students because other funds are sometimes available. However, we can only accommodate maybe one international student each year. Applicants with their own sources of funding are also welcome to apply. This program provides undergraduates genuine involvement in actual research. Physics-related research projects are available in the Physics and the Applied Science departments. We have collaborations at the nearby laboratories: Thomas Jefferson Lab and NASA Langley Research Center.
Other summer programs may be found at the NSF.
The College of William and Mary is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
If you have any question, please contact Elle Wilkinson at [[evwilk]] or Professor Deconinck at [[wdeconinck]].
