Auditioning for Major Ensembles
Students should visit the webpages of the major ensembles for detailed information and can contact ensemble conductors directly.
Most major ensembles (including the Choir, Chorus, Botetourt Chamber Singers, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, and Wind Symphony) hold auditions a few days before the beginning of Fall Semester and during the first week of classes. Exact requirements vary among the ensembles, but generally include one or two prepared pieces (e.g., etude, sonatas, concerto, other solo literature) that display contrasting styles. Sight-reading/sight-singing and scales are often also required.
Students are also encouraged to visit the information table set up on the first floor of Ewell Hall during the first week of classes. Music students tend the table and are happy to answer questions about all W&M ensembles, large and small.
