About the Performers

Jazz pianist and harmonica virtuoso Harris Simon hails from New York City. He has performed with many well-known jazz greats including Sonny Fortune, Clifford Jordan, and Dexter Gordon, and has appeared at jazz festivals in New York, Montreal, Montreux, Edinburgh, Tokyo, Helsinki, and Stockholm. In 1983 Mr. Simon won First Prize at the Kalisz International Jazz Piano Competition in Poland.

A member of the Performing Artist Faculty of the College of William and Mary since 1994, Mr. Simon teaches jazz piano, harmonica, and directs the Jazz Combo. In 2013 he performed at Carnegie Recital Hall in a program of Poetry and Music sponsored by the Muscarelle Museum. Last season he was featured soloist in the Cabaret and Cocktails Concert of the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra. Harris Simon is a regular at An Occasion for the Arts and appears annually in the Williamsburg Winter Blues Jazz Fest and the Botetourt Chamber Singers’ Gala. In addition, every summer Mr. Simon performs with harmonica soloists from around the world at the Society for Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica Annual Conference.
