Education

- Old Dominion University
Background
I have been performing locally and regionally for more than two decades in groups ranging from duo to big bands. Performances include the Virginia Arts Festival, the Jazz on Granby Series, the Ewell Concert Series, the Williamsburg Regional Library Concerts, Jazz for Hope, the Town Point Jazz Festival, the Ella Fitzgerald Christopher Newport Jazz Series, The Wintergreen Performing Arts Series, and a National Public Radio live concert recording. I have recorded and produced two CD’s: “Laura Martier and Woody Beckner”, a compilation of jazz and pop vocal standards, and “At First Glance”, which is an all-original outing.
Areas of Specialization
I have been a guitar instructor at William and Mary for fourteen years. The students here are great to work with, open to new ideas, and rise to the challenge of hard work. They have an impressive depth of intellect and span of interests. I am always pleasantly surprised by the ability and efforts they make.
