Resources for Monroe Scholars

Tutoring at Matthew Whaley School

The Monroe Scholar Program has "adopted" Matthew Whaley Elementary School, located approximately three blocks from campus on Scotland Street. Monroes are invited to participate in tutoring, after school clubs, and other activities. Approximately 200 Monroe Scholars participate in the program each year.

Scholarship Information and Advising

Lisa Grimes, the Associate Director of the Charles Center, coordinates the Office of National Scholarships for the College. Monroe Scholars who are interested in applying for these scholarships should look through the information on our website and then can schedule an appointment to meet with Lisa or one of our many Peer Scholarship Advisors (PSAs) to discuss the application process. Please see the PSA website for email addresses and office hours. Students are encouraged to investigate these opportunities early in their college career.

The Charles Center

The Charles Center, home of the Program's administrative offices, is located in Blow Hall on William and Mary's Old Campus and functions as a second home for Monroe Scholars. A variety of periodicals are available in the lounge.

Monroe Hall

While many honors programs isolate exceptional students in a separate residential college and classes, Monroe Scholars are encouraged to take part in all aspects of campus life like any other William & Mary student. In their freshman year, admitted Monroe Scholars may choose to live in Monroe Hall with other Monroe Scholars as well as non-Monroes. Monroe is centrally located on Old Campus, near the Charles Center and the Wren Building and just across Richmond Road from Wawa.
