Japanese Studies Background and Interests
Hired as a one year Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese Studies replacing Assistant Professor Michael Cronin, Professor Knighton holds a Ph.D. in English from UC Berkeley in 2003. While at Berkeley, she also specialized in modern Japanese literature, with an emphasis on sexuality and gender. Mary has published on and translated Japanese literature, and has taught both Japanese and American literature in Japan and the United States. Professor Knighton will teach classes on Modern and Contemporary Japanese Literature, Japanese Cinema, Gender and Sexuality in Japanese Literature, and Translation this year.
