Math 112
Second Semester Calculus
(Warning: Students cannot receive credit for more than one of Math 112 or Math 132)
Description of the course
Concepts covered in this course include: methods of integration; applications of the integral to geometry, physics, and economics; slope fields and the qualitative behavior of solutions to differential equations; and Taylor series.
Successful completion of Math 112 is awarded 4 semester hours of credit. The lecture sections of the course meet 3 times a week for 50 minutes or twice a week for 80 minutes. The fourth hour is a required class meeting in which students meet with a lab assistant. The laboratory assignments complement the lectures and examine themes that run throughout the course. The lab component accounts for 15% of the course grade.
Textbook
- Single Variable Calculus with Early Transcendentals (9th edition), by James Stewart, published by Cengage. It is a available in the bookstore. Do not purchase WebAssign unless it is required by your instructor. The course covers section 5.5, select sections in chapters 6, 8 and 9, and most of the material in chapters 7 and 11.
Calculators
- The TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator is recommended for Math 112.
- Students can expect to take most tests and quizzes without a calculator.
Labs
Students will meet with a teaching assistant (TA) for the 4th hour of the course each week, beginning the first full week of classes.
Labs 0-10 are posted below. Lab 0 is a Calculus I review that should be completed after the first lecture and submitted at the first lab session for grading. The lab sessions do not convene until the first full week of classes.

Final Exam
The exam for all sections of Math 112 is administered during the math block as seen in the exam schedule. The room assignments for the final exam are posted in the Mathematics Department in Jones Hall the week before the exam.

Free tutoring (beginning on Monday of the first full week of classes) is provided by graduate assistants for Math 111 and Math 112 in Jones 112 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday evenings. See your instructor for details.
