Full Description

Title: Forbidden Subgraphs and Hamiltonian Properties in Graphs

Abstract: We trace the development of the study of forbidden subgraph results
concerning cycle and path properties in graphs.  From the first
significant development in the early 1980s, through the
characterization of forbidden pairs for spanning cycles
(hamiltonian graphs), to the characterization of all
pairs for 3-connected pancyclic graphs (cycles of all lengths
from 3 to the order of the graph)  and to the most significant
outstanding problem, the Matthews-Sumner Conjecture that
all 4-connected claw-free graphs are hamiltonian.
