The Activity Program in the Department of Kinesiology & Health Sciences provides expert instruction on a wide range of outdoor and lifetime physical activities. The Activity program compliments the academic program in Kinesiology & Health Sciences and provides a resource for students campus-wide by teaching proper techniques and skills in physical activities which are vital to overall health and wellness as addressed in the Surgeon Generals report on Physical Activity and Health:
Health professionals, in addition to being role models for healthy behaviors, need to encourage their patients to get out of their chairs and start fitness programs tailored to their individual needs. Businesses need to learn from what has worked in the past and promote worksite fitness, an easy option for workers. Community leaders need to reexamine whether enough resources have been devoted to the maintenance of parks, playgrounds, community centers, and physical education. Schools and universities need to reintroduce daily, quality physical activity as a key component of a comprehensive education (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 1999).
