Best Of Williamsburg

The Best Of Williamsburg is an annual report "grading" the water quality from 17 freshwater streams and ponds in the 13.7 square mile watershed describing the drainage basin for College Creek. Students and faculty have been taking water samplesfour times a year since 2005.These samples have been analyzed for suspended sediment load, oxygen content, nutrient concentration, and fecal coliform count. The criteria for scoring and grading streams are specific to the College Creek watershed and are not collectively used for grading streams at the regional or national level.Further, because the water quality information is collected quarterly, many aspects of water quality that vary over shorter time scales are not included in the tally. Many streams and ponds exhibit very poor water quality during and after storms, but these events are not sampled as part of normal protocol.
