Sean Harvey wins Mellon/ACLS fellowship

Sean Patrick Harvey received a Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowship for academic year 2008/2009. These fellowships are designed to assist graduate students in the humanities and related social sciences in the last year of PhD dissertation writing.

Harvey's dissertation is entitled "American Languages: Indians, Ethnology, and the Empire for Liberty," and examines the widespread study of Native American languages in the late eighteenth and first half of the nineteenth centuries.
