Bio

Manal received her BA from the College of William & Mary in 2013. She is interested in sectarian fragmentation in opposition to the creation of nation-states and national identities in the Middle East and how these identities overlap in the Syrian Diaspora during the turn of the 20th century. She is currently researching the overlap of religious and national identities of the first wave of Syrian immigrants in New York between 1890-1917.
