Background

Caroline Morris graduated with a B.A. in History and Italian from the University of Virginia in 2003. She earned her M.A. from William and Mary in 2006 with a thesis entitled "'Down Where the South Begins': Virginia Radio and the Conversation of Nationhood."  She received William and Mary's Award for a Distinguished Master's Thesis in the Humanities for the project. Caroline is writing her dissertation about radio station WRVA, Richmond, Virginia, from 1925 to 1975.  The dissertation explores the position of localized audiences and broadcasters in an era of so-called nationalization, the surprising but significant career of the "hillbilly" archetype in post-WWII mainstream media, and contested discourses of race in the Southern media during the Civil Rights Era. Caroline is currently the Glucksman Fellow in the History department, and is teaching U.S. History 1877-present, and U.S. Sports History.
