Background

Amy is in her first year of the Ph.D. program in early American history.  She earned her B.A. from William and Mary in 2006 and will receive her M.A. in May 2009.  Her thesis concerns the political implications of country dance and dancing assemblies during the late 18th century, particularly in cities occupied by the British during the American Revolution.  For four summers, she has worked for the N.I.A.H.D. as a resident program assistant, a floating instructor, and most recently, a dance mistress.  When she isn't researching, she pursues her interests in literature, dance, and music as a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America, the W&M Heritage Dancers and W&M Swing Club, and the Wham Bam Big Band (for which she is the vocalist).  In addition, she scouts out all the best ice cream parlors around historic sites up and down the east coast.
