Background

Ellen received a B.A. in history from Vassar College in 1998 and is currently ABD at William and Mary. Her master's thesis, "'Of More Consequence than the President': Frances Folsom Cleveland and the Role of First Lady in the Late Nineteenth Century," looks at the ways in which society and politics intersected in the activities of political wives in Washington, D.C. in the 1880s and 90s. Ellen has taught History 122, the U.S. from 1877 to the present, and History 211, "Race, Gender, and American Imperialism, 1880-1920," and served as a TA for the Global History survey course.  She is currently teaching in the history department at Saginaw Valley State University and continues to work on her dissertation examining the life and work of the turn-of-the-century geographer (and fellow Vassar graduate) Ellen Churchill Semple. If that doesn't work out, she plans to raise goats.
