Bio

Katherine (Kate) Madison received her B.A. in history from Carleton College in 2011, graduating summa cum laude.  For her undergraduate thesis, entitled "News from America: Extracts and Trans-Atlantic British Community in London, 1773-1776," she examined colonial American news articles reprinted in London newspapers, ultimately considering questions of print culture and imperial identity.  Her research interests include intellectual and cultural history of mid- to late-eighteenth century America, with occasional emphasis on the Anglo-American relationship.  For her M.A. thesis she considering is researching print culture and personal identity in late-colonial New York and Philadelphia.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading Shakespeare and Jane Austen, swing dancing, and baking.
