Graduate Student History

Current Research: Gender and family in early America

Originally from Norwalk, CT, Caylin graduated summa cum laude from Bates College in 2012. While at Bates, Caylin wrote a senior honors thesis on gender in seventeenth-century Virginia. Currently in her second year of the M.A./Ph.D. program, Caylin remains interested in the social history of early America, with a focus on gender and families. Her current research for her master’s thesis explores episodes of household violence involving indentured servants brought before the courts in seventeenth-century Virginia. When she isn’t busy looking at court records, Caylin enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, running, reading, and hanging out in coffee shops.
