On Thursday, November 5 Dr.
Suzannah Lipscomb, Research Curator at Hampton Court Palace, will deliver
a public lecture at the College of William & Mary on the topic
"Prince to Tyrant: What Changed Henry VIII?" Her lecture, which
is free and open to the public, will be at 4:00 pm in James Blair Hall,
Room 229. The lecture is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences,
the Department of History, and the program in Medieval and Renaissance
Studies.
Dr. Lipscomb took a double first in Modern History at Lincoln College,
University of Oxford, and was a Royal Historical Society Marshall
Research Fellow at the Institute of Historical Research, London. In 2009
she received her doctorate from the University of Oxford, where she held
a Jowett Senior Scholarship at Balliol College for her dissertation
research on women during the French Reformation. At Hampton Court Palace
she is one of the lead curators responsible for creating new exhibitions
and visitor experiences relating to the Tudor era. In July 2009, as part
of celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII's accession
to the throne, she organized a series of high-profile events, including
an international conference on "Henry VIII and the Tudor
Court." She has appeared on TV and radio programs in both the UK and
US (most recently on NPR), and she will appear in a forthcoming
documentary on the English Bible to be aired in this country on PBS. She
is the author of 1536: The Year that Changed Henry VIII (Oxford:
Lion Hudson, 2009).
