Background

Professor Hendrix joined the department in 2011. He received his B.A. from Kalamazoo College and his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego. He teaches courses on international relations and comparative politics, as well as Global Environmental Governance (GOVT 322). He is Director of the Project of Environment, Food and Conflict (ENFOCO) at the Institute for the Theory and Practice of International Relations and Co-Director of the GIS Center at Lake Victoria, Uganda.

His research interests include the economic and security implications of climate change, human security, and political violence. Along with Idean Salehyan, Professor Hendrix maintains the Social Conflict in Africa Database (www.scaddata.org), a data project cataloging social conflict in Africa. He has consulted for the Department of Defense, the FAO, the Human Security Report Project, and the World Food Programme, and has research affiliations with the Peterson Institute for International Economics and the Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law at UT Austin. His research has been supported by the Department of Defense Minerva Initiative and the National Science Foundation.
