Koenig-Nimmo Foreign Service Award
The Department of Government is accepting applications for the Koenig-Nimmo Foreign Service Award. The award, of approximately $2500, is made each year to a senior from any major who hopes to pursue a career in foreign service with a government agency such as the Department of State. The recipient will be selected on the basis of commitment to foreign service, academic excellence, leadership qualities, and interest in promoting international understanding. If necessary, interviews will be conducted by the Government Department. One letter of recommendation is required. Application form (.doc).
Completed applications should be turned into the Government Department office, Morton 10. The deadline for applications is customarily in April (check this site for an update on the exact date).
Lawrence and Jean Irwin Memorial Internship Stipends
Thanks to the generosity of the late Lawrence and Jean Irwin, the Department is able to award a number of stipends to help support students undertaking summer internships related to politics and government. The exact number of awards and the amount of each will vary from year to year, but in general about ten will be given, ranging from $500 to $1000 each. Review of 2010 applications will begin at in April, 2010 (check this site for an update on the exact date).
Government Department Student Conference Fund
Each year the Department is able to provide limited, supplementary funding to help defray costs incurred by students taking part in professional political science conferences. Details and application (PDF). This form can be filled out online; please do so to ensure legibility.
Warner Moss Prize
Each year the Department grants the Warner Moss prize to the outstanding senior Honors thesis in Government. More information regarding Honors.
Michael Sturm Student Conference Fund
Thanks to the generous support provided by Michael Sturm, Class of 1984, each year the Department of Government is able to provide limited, supplementary funding to help defray costs incurred by students taking part in professional political science conferences.
