First and foremost, the Government Department is committed to intellectual rigor in teaching and research.
We devote particular attention to enriching the analytical and communications abilities of students. Most courses in the department require one or more papers. Our advanced seminars, which enroll 15 or fewer students, require a major paper based on independent student research. The department also offers multiple writing-intensive seminars designed for freshmen. Every year, government faculty conduct collaborative research with dozens of undergraduates, often resulting in publication.
The department is committed to the long-term professional development of students, providing assistance with everything from internships and scholarships to graduate placement and study abroad.
