Undergraduate Program

The William & Mary Geology department is among the elite undergraduate programs in the country.  The department graduates between 20 and 40 majors per year (a large number for undergraduate programs) and our graduates go on to careers in the earth and environmental sciences as well as law, education, and medicine. The problem solving and analytical thinking required in Geology can be utilized in many other disciplines. The department is training the next generation of earth and environmental scientists, but also helping to educate and critically inform students with a wide range of interests.

We attract a talented group of students to the program because our courses are stimulating, challenging, and, dare we say, fun. All Geology majors pursue an original senior research project; their research is significant and many present their research at professional meetings. Our weekly Brown Bag seminars are distinctive because undergraduates discuss their research endeavors and internship experiences with their peers and the faculty. The Geology department forms a vibrant community with a level of camaraderie amongst the students that is rare in big departments. Take a class and see for yourself.
